NSRF Timeline

When does your company have to report under the NSRF?

Malaysia's National Sustainability Reporting Framework phases in IFRS S1 and S2 by group. Each year below means annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January of that year.

GroupWhoIFRS S1 & S2Scope 3Reasonable assurance, Scope 1 & 2
Group 1Main Market listed issuers with market capitalisation of RM2 billion and aboveFY2025FY2027FY2028
Group 2Other Main Market listed issuersFY2026FY2028FY2029
Group 3ACE Market listed issuers, and non-listed companies with annual revenue of RM2 billion and aboveFY2027FY2030FY2030

Mandatory reasonable assurance was pushed back one year in September 2026, and must follow ISSA 5000. Meeting these dates takes more than a report writer: finance, risk, operations, procurement, facilities, internal audit and the board all feed the final disclosure. The programmes below train those functions together.

FAQ

ESG training FAQ

What is NSRF training?

NSRF training prepares companies to apply Malaysia's National Sustainability Reporting Framework, which adopts the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2) for listed issuers and large non-listed companies. It covers climate-related disclosures, greenhouse gas emissions reporting and the governance and review processes behind them.

Is the ESG training HRD Corp claimable?

Yes. The programmes are HRD Corp claimable for eligible Malaysian employers, subject to the applicable claim requirements and your available levy. They are delivered by an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, and the course outline, trainer profile and supporting documents for your claim come with our proposal. HRD Corp was previously known as HRDF, so some HR teams still call this HRDF claimable training.

How long are the programmes, and does that meet HRD Corp hours?

Each training day is 7 training hours, excluding lunch and breaks, so one-day programmes are 7 hours and two-day programmes are 14 hours. That matches HRD Corp's definition of a full training day.

Which ESG course should we start with?

Listed companies preparing IFRS S1 and S2 disclosures start with the NSRF Reporting Lab. Teams that own the emissions numbers start with Scope 1 & 2 GHG Accounting, then Scope 3. Suppliers and SMEs answering customer ESG questionnaires start with ESG Readiness for SMEs and Suppliers.

Do participants need previous ESG experience?

Foundation programmes need none. Intermediate programmes assume participants understand their own business processes, but they do not need to be ESG or climate specialists.

Who should attend together?

The strongest groups combine sustainability, finance, risk and the operational data owners. Scope 3 programmes should also include procurement or supply-chain staff.

Where is the training delivered?

At your office or a nominated venue in Kuala Lumpur and throughout Malaysia. Live virtual delivery is available for selected programmes.
