FAQ

Questions, answered.

What are IFRS S1 and S2?

IFRS S1 and S2 are the ISSB sustainability disclosure standards. S1 sets the general requirements for disclosing sustainability-related risks and opportunities; S2 covers climate-related disclosures, including greenhouse gas emissions and climate risk. Together they are becoming the global baseline for sustainability reporting.

Do Malaysian companies need to comply with ISSB standards?

Yes, on a phased schedule. Malaysia's National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF) adopts the ISSB standards for listed issuers, phased in from financial year 2025 starting with the largest Main Market companies, with other listed issuers and large non-listed companies following in later phases. Suppliers to reporting companies feel the requirements earlier through value chain data requests.

What is Scope 3 and why is it difficult?

Scope 3 covers indirect emissions across your value chain, from purchased goods and logistics to the use of sold products, organised into 15 categories. It is difficult because the data sits outside your organisation. The fix is rarely more effort at reporting time; it is a defined methodology and data collection workflows that run through the year.

What is climate scenario analysis?

A structured way to test how your business performs under different climate futures, typically combining physical risks such as floods and heat with transition risks such as carbon pricing and shifting demand. ISSB S2 expects companies to use it, and done well it informs strategy rather than just filling a disclosure section.

What does assurance readiness mean?

Regulators and investors increasingly expect sustainability disclosures to be independently assured. Assurance readiness means your data has a traceable trail, your methodology and assumptions are documented, and responsibilities are defined, so an assurance provider can verify your numbers without months of rework.
