FAQ

Questions about this programme

What are the 15 Scope 3 categories?

Under the GHG Protocol, upstream categories are: 1 purchased goods and services, 2 capital goods, 3 fuel- and energy-related activities, 4 upstream transportation and distribution, 5 waste generated in operations, 6 business travel, 7 employee commuting and 8 upstream leased assets. Downstream categories are: 9 downstream transportation and distribution, 10 processing of sold products, 11 use of sold products, 12 end-of-life treatment of sold products, 13 downstream leased assets, 14 franchises and 15 investments.

When do Malaysian companies have to disclose Scope 3 emissions?

Under the NSRF transition reliefs, Group 1 companies disclose Scope 3 from financial years beginning 2027, Group 2 from 2028 and Group 3 from 2030. Suppliers to these companies usually feel it earlier, because their customers start collecting value-chain data before their own deadline.

Our multinational customer is asking for our emissions data. Is this the right course?

If you need to calculate and report your own value-chain emissions, yes. If you mainly need to answer customer questionnaires with a basic carbon estimate and a credible data pack, start with ESG Readiness for SMEs and Suppliers, which is shorter and assumes no prior experience.

Is the Scope 3 training HRD Corp claimable?

Yes. It runs as two full days of 7 training hours each (14 hours in total), delivered by an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, and is claimable for eligible Malaysian employers subject to the applicable claim requirements and your available levy.
